New applicants will be considered only if they have prior consistent racing experience in a program such as D-Team, ARC, or USSA.
We are hoping to be able to admit all previous Pony Alpine team members in this season's team, but this is not guaranteed.
TRAINING (Captains’/Dryland/ On-Hill)
There will be no captains’ practices or dryland training this year
We will start the season on the hill at Afton; estimated on-snow date Monday, Nov. 30
All in-person team gatherings for meetings, meals, etc. have been suspended
Training Monday - Thursday afternoons; practice time to be determined
In order to minimize health risks as well as the risk that the entire team could be put into quarantine, athletes will be assigned to a pod of teammates with whom they will train exclusively. In this way, should quarantine rules go into effect, it will not directly impact every skier on the team.
IMPORTANT: During practice and races, if an athlete does not stay within their assigned pod, and ski only within their pod, they will be suspended from the team. No exceptions.
We’ve received information from Afton regarding their policy changes this season as follows. Note: we anticipateadditional and possibly shifting restrictions from Afton.
Season Lift Passes: purchase at Afton or on its website.
It appears that Afton sent notice to individuals who rented lockers in previous years then conducted a lottery. It sounds as if all lockers are spoken for.
Changing into ski gear at Afton: all changing, including booting up, to take place outdoors or in vehicles; Afton is not allowing boot bags or any other items indoors
Limited indoor access to restrooms; no indoor gathering.
Chair 2 will be our training lift this season; it is a 4-place chair and capacity this year will be 2 per chair with seating at opposite ends
NO CARPOOLING and NO TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED TO PRACTICE
SPECTATORS PROHIBITED AT RACES AND PRACTICE
MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING
Masks will be required at all times except while skiing through the course.
We will have chairlift protocols to help maintain social distancing.
Throughout practice and races, we will adhere to social distancing standards.
Transportation to be determined
We will not be participating in invitational races this season
The SEC plans to hold four conference races with eight varsity and eight JV skiers competing at each race (total of 16 women and 16 men per team). In the past, all team athletes competed at every conference race. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be very limited opportunity to compete.
Sections and State contests to be determined.
This will, obviously, change due to qualifying event changes. TBD
